 ,

Dr Coffin gave this presentation to the staff on the first day back to work. She then gave it at the September Board of Education Meeting. It outlines the way the Michigan 10 in 10 Initiative, the ESSA, our new Strategic Design, and our Restructuring all fit together to shape the district to provide the best possible experience for our students.

Reorganization Update

On September 28th we held our first District Reorganization Committees Meeting at the High School. More than 45 community members and TPS staff came together to work towards the future of the district.

We will take what we have learned from this meeting to internal committees and continue the work in the coming months. Our next community meeting will be held in December, where we will provide updates on what the internal committees have accomplished.

Please feel free to review the process so far or to leave a comment at the Reorganization Website.

Thank you again for your continued support of TPS.

THS Student leads sleep-out

Noah Crots saw the plight of the homeless and decided he needed to do something about it. He arranged a "sleep-out" where students spent the night in cardboard boxes in the THS parking lot to experience what it was like to be homeless.

Noah did his research too, "I looked up stats and there is about 3000 homeless children in the south-central Michigan area."

About 20 students showed up in the rain that night. They were able to participate in a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses. Each student also brought 3 cans of food to the event, which will be donated to The Daily Bread in Adrian.

The sleep-out raised over $2000, to be donated to the Share the Warmth Program. Noah hopes that the sleep-out can grow into an annual event and that a junior will step in to lead it next year, while he hopes to go on and study biomedical engineering in college.

Communities In Schools of the Tecumseh Area (CISTA) is organizing a district-wide shoe collection from October 3rd-14th called Steps For Students.

We need to collect 3,000 pairs of shoes in order to meet our goal. Your shoe donation will allow us to provide new shoes or boots to students in need in our community! This includes anything that goes on your feet, from shoes, slippers, boots, or flip flops. Your student can bring as many new or gently used, clean shoes as possible to their schools and drop them in the cans located near the office. CISTA will collect the shoes and is working with Funds2org to have the donated shoes refurbished and sent to children in need overseas. Then we will receive a cash donation to be able to buy new shoes and boots for students in need right here in Tecumseh. Please join in our effort to collect 3,000 pairs of gently used shoes.

Thank you for your support!
