Tecumseh Music Students Place into State Honor Band, Choir, and Orchestra

The Amway Grand Hotel and the Devos Center for the Performing Arts in Grand Rapids were sites for the Annual Michigan Music Conference in which record numbers of Tecumseh students represented our town at the state level.

Members of the Michigan School Vocal Music Association (MSVMA) Middle School Honors Choirs included:   Nadia Kelham and Sophia Walsh in the two-part Soprano/Alto  (SA) Choir; and Morgan Davis, Olivia Gawron, and Georgia Keefer in the three-part Soprano/Soprano/Alto  (SSA) Choir. These students auditioned for this group back in October. Out of 80 SSA trios, 35 were selected, and out of 110 SA Duets, 65 were chosen. The students attended Saturday rehearsals in November, December, and January around the state before joining in Grand Rapids on Thursday, December 21st for their performance. Tecumseh Middle School vocal music teacher Hannah Sparrow prepared these singers.

Members of the Michigan School Vocal Music Association (MSVMA) High School Honors Choirs included:  Haylee Callison, Abby Keyser, and Emily Nowak in the MSVMA Women’s Choir (SSA);  Sam Anklin, Jacob Caywood, James Corwin, Sam Dickerson, Jake Hyre, Noah Kittle, Jack Lacasse, Mitch Lindsay, Clinton Olberg, and Jack Teichma in the MSVMA Men’s Choir (TTBB) and Jenny Hebert and Tommy Hodmgan in the MSVMA Mixed Choir (SATB).  These students auditioned via recording for Regional Honor Choir held back in October in Kalamzaoo. The Regional Choirs included approximately 750 students from around the state. Only 300 of those students were invited to sing in Grand Rapids. The choirs rehearsed from Thursday to Saturday in Grand Rapids and performed on Saturday, January 23rd.  Tecumseh High School Choir vocal music teacher Darin Deweese prepared these singers.

Alex Lammers and Zak Witte performed as members of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) All-State Orchestra and Band. Over 2,560 of the finest middle school and high school instrumentalists in Michigan auditioned for a spot in one of the five All-State Ensembles that played in Grand Rapids last weekend.  Zak and Alex were two of 200 high school students who earned a spot in the All-State HS Band and Orchestra. Alex and Zak both attended auditions in October and Alex was selected for the orchestra and Zak for the Band. Alex studies privately with Valerie Palmieri at Adrian College and was assisted in preparation by Tecumseh Middle School and High School instrumental music teacher Joe McInchak.

Zak Witte was selected a principal euphonium in the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) All-State band. He studies privately with retired Tecumseh music teacher Robert Calkins and was also assisted in preparation by Tecumseh Middle School and High School instrumental music teacher Joe McInchak.

Reorganization Update

Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out the Scenario Survey. We were blown away with the response from the community.

With over 700 respondents it will take a while to sift through all the data. We plan on presenting the results to the Board of Education in March.

Until then, please feel free to review the process so far or to leave a comment at the Reorganization Website.

Thank you again.
