We are all so excited that the 2018-19 school year is officially underway! The TPS staff was very busy all summer getting each of our classrooms ready to welcome learners back to class. I had the pleasure of talking with many, many families at the open houses last week and I am thankful for all of the families and community members who continue to provide feedback on how we can best meet the needs of all of our learners.

Through these and many other conversations, meetings and communications, we have been able to gather feedback and implement adjustments that you will see reflected in the structures of this school year. This continued work, based on our Strategic Design, has allowed us as a school community to come together and examine the systems that make up our educational delivery model.

TPS maintains committed to the vision of creating the ideal learning experience for each and every child. We know that content is a key part of what we do as a school system, but it can’t be our only focus. For our learners to be prepared for their future, they must also have the opportunity to work on the necessary skills, often referred to as "soft skills" that will be key to their success as adults.

With this understanding, we have identified Exit Outcomes for learners, which include being a caring communicator, a self-directed learner, and an invested, contributing citizen. TPS has a solid instructional framework - focused on lesson design and sequence, standards and measurable objectives, student engagement and proactive classroom management. We recognize that by creating customized structures, we will be able to help learners identify their individual gifts and talents, and ignite the passion that leads to lifelong learning.

I invite you to watch the short video below to take a peek into our classrooms and to hear from our staff and learners about what it means to be a part of Tecumseh Public Schools. If you would like to visit, please contact me or your child’s building principal. We’d love to take you on a tour.

Again, thank you for your continued support and feedback. I’m excited to see how we can work together to provide learning experiences and opportunities that ensure each of our TPS learners reach their full potential.

School of Choice Deadline is September 7

Tecumseh Public Schools welcomes families wishing to participate in the Schools of Choice program. We accept applications during the application window each year. We are currently enrolling School of Choice students through this Friday, September 7, 2018 for the fall semester. We will accept applications for the spring semester from December 10-21, 2018.

Schools of Choice families will need to complete the Schools of Choice application each year to remain enrolled in TPS.

You can find the Schools of Choice application on the TPS Enrollment page.
Community Service Days

Learners at Tecumseh East and West STEAM Centers are hitting the streets to take on two days of community service. It's only possible if we have adults who are willing to pitch in and lend a helping hand.

Read more about the Community Service Days on the TPS website.
Donate your Android Device to Tecumseh East

Tecumseh East STEAM Center is accepting donations of old Android cell phones and tablets for learners to use in a new Project Lead the Way course. The App Creators unit will introduce learners to mobile app development and computer science. They will choose a problem that interests them from the areas of health, environment, emergency preparedness, education, community service, and school culture; then conduct research and develop an app that solves a real-world problem.

You can find out more about donating your device on the TPS website.

MySchoolBucks is the online payment tool used by Tecumseh Public Schools. You can sign-up for a free account and easily make payments online and on-the-go.

You can check cafeteria balances and purchases, receive low balance alerts, set up automatic payments, and pay for other school-related expenses such as field trips.

A link to MySchoolBucks can be found in the Parent Portal on the TPS website.

Website Changes

Thanks to feedback from parents and community members, visitors to the TPS website will notice several changes that make the site more user-friendly. Among the updates are:

  • A district-wide directory has been added to the homepage under the "District" tab
  • Our Schools page has been redesigned to add more information about the different buildings
  • Dedicated Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment pages have been added to each School page
  • More resources have been added that breakdown and explain our Strategic Design
  • A Public Notices link now appears at the top of every page in the grey utility bar

The goal of the TPS Communications Department is for the website to serve as a valuable resource for district information, news, and events. If you have suggestions for how the site can better meet the needs of our learners, families, and community please email connect@tps.k12.mi.us.
